Balancing "all of this" with Work and Personal Life
Caregivers get burned out – professional ones too! This fun session addresses burnout and participants will leave with an individual plan on how to achieve balance in their lives.
Boundaries
Learn how to set limits with clients/residents and prevent fuzzy boundaries. The consequences of poor boundaries will be discussed. Case studies will be examined.
Customer Service
Nothing is more important than great customer service in long-term care. It goes a long way to creating a great reputation and referrals. Leave with ideas on how to improve your customer service and get all employees involved!
Discharge Planning
D/C planning is not just social work, it is a team effort! Learn the roles of team players and how to make discharges occur smoothly.
Dignity
Participants will take part in a fun and eye- opening activity surrounding issues of dignity. The session facilitates great discussion and the facility will end up with concrete plans to address at least one dignity issue.
Elder Abuse Experience
Participants will experience what it is like to be physically abused or involved in the physical abuse of an older vulnerable adult. Strategies will be discussed of how to handle the real thing when it occurs in a facility.
Elder Issues
Play a great new game addressing issues that occur in long-term care settings. It is a fun way to bring up controversial and ethical issues.
Geriatric Depression
No it is not just part of growing old or being in a nursing home! Find out how to recognize and assess for depression and what to do about it across disciplines!
Loss and Life Changes
No one experiences more loss and changes than older adults in nursing homes. This session addresses loss and participants will leave with methods to help those residents who are grieving and have had many changes to endure.
Protecting the Vulnerable and Elderly
Overview of the Minnesota Vulnerable Adult Law and Adult Protection system.
Psychological Abuse of the Vulnerable and Elderly
Find out what it is, how it occurs in facilities (it occurs on a day-to-day basis in EVERY facility). Participants will learn the signs of psychological abuse and what to do about it.
Resident Rights
Are the rights of residents considered in your facility on a day-to-day basis, learn the basics in a powerful, thought-provoking manner.
Serious and Persistent Mentally Ill and LTC
Mentally ill (and sometimes younger) residents are sometimes challenging. Learn how to address behaviors and use community resources to assist with treatment and discharges.
Sexuality and Older Adults
- Common myths will be explored and clarified.
- Changes and adaptations for both genders will be presented.
- Controversies and difficult situations will be discussed.
- Ideas for policies surrounding sexuality in facilities, and how professionals can address the topic with residents and families.
Ethics and Geriatric Care
- Explore different Codes of Ethics.
- Learn bioethics theories, and how people make ethical decisions.
- Discuss case studies involving ethical decision-making.
